Democratizing Information Literacy for the AI Era
Empowering students with the critical thinking skills to navigate today's complex information landscape—regardless of their school's resources.
Information Literacy for Every Student
Information literacy is the most transferable skill students can develop—critical for college success, career advancement, and engaged citizenship. Yet access to these skills has largely been reserved for well-funded schools or college-level coursework.
The Challenge
There is more information available than ever before—some good, some bad, and increasingly, some generated by AI. Students need to develop skills to consume information critically, evaluating sources, presentation, and arguments.
This is a non-partisan issue that goes beyond fact-checking. Students need to be fluent in the language of information to participate in an increasingly digital and AI-powered economy.
Our Solution
That's why we created Veritable—seeking 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization status to brings real-time information literacy education to every student, regardless of background.
Veritable goes beyond initiatives focused on policy advocacy or fact-checking by focusing on developing students' abilities to form and support their own viewpoints. Veritable works backward from students to address the information environments they face, while also partnering with the technology and media leaders reshaping them. We believe students, parents, businesses, and governments all share a stake in the future of U.S. information literacy.
The Veritable Chrome Extension
Each student's co-pilot for information literacy online—revealing how information is presented, coaching students to read critically, and guiding them to gain new perspectives on issues they care about.
Real-World Example
When a student reads a blog post about climate change, the extension might highlight rhetorical cues like 'loaded language', surface more authoritative sources, and guide the student to compare differing perspectives.
Whether researching a debate topic, reading news about a global event, or learning to evaluate academic articles effectively, students get tailored, just-in-time prompts that sharpen their judgment.
"The extension helped me realize that news isn't always black and white. Now, I actively look for different perspectives."
